Athlete Spotlight: Tysen and
Ambriah Lewis
By Searrah Herendeen
Athlete Spotlights highlight athletes that are competing for the first time, or are a returning competitor. We want to showcase the diverse sports community the Meijer State Games of Michigan has helped create and grown with. Today’s Athlete Spotlight features competitive swimming-postal siblings, Ambriah and Tysen Lewis.
About the Lewis’s:
Ambriah
A 14 year-old role model for her siblings. Ambriah is currently an eighth-grader in Coldwater, MI. She has a big family with two other brothers and two sisters. Her hobbies are drawing, coloring, and hanging out with her friends.
Tysen
A 9 year-old with big dreams of following in his sister’s footsteps. Tysen obviously enjoys swimming. When he isn’t swimming he likes to play video games and shoot his nerf guns. In addition to his siblings, Tysen’s family has two dogs, and two cats.
how did you get involved in Swimming-Postal?
Ambriah was introduced to swimming through a class in school. This class is an opportunity that not every school offers. She enjoyed the class so much that she has decided to to try doing it competitively.
Tysen was inspired to join swimming because his sister and his uncle both swim. Maybe he can inspire his other siblings to join the sport too.
What are you looking forward to the most during this Swimming-postal competition?
This is Tysen’s first time competing in the Meijer State Games of Michigan. He has never swam postal before and is looking forward to this first time experience. This will only be the beginning to his competitive postal journey.
Ambriah wants to see improvement. Ambriah is, “Looking forward to beating last years number of laps swam.” She wants to see how she has grown and became stronger as a swimmer. The swimming-postal competition is one way that competitors can track their progress.
What do you think your greatest accomplishment is so far in swimming?
Ambriah has had continued improvement on all the different types of strokes. Recently, two of the relay teams she is on made it to the MISCA State Meet! Everyone on the team should consider this a great opportunity and acchomplishment.
Tysen’s answer could very well change after this swimming-postal competition. Tysen is proud of himself for, “Learning to do all the different strokes”. Maybe his next greatest accomplishment will be winning a metal in this year’s Meijer Winter State Games of Michigan.
The Meijer State Games of Michigan is a multi-sport, Olympic-style event(s) that welcome athletes regardless of age or ability level. The Games embody the values of participation, sportsmanship and healthy living.
