Meijer State Games of Michigan Joins Heikki Lunta in Negaunee to Host Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony for the 2025 Meijer State Games of Michigan – Winter Games will now be co-hosted with a traditional winter festival held in Negaunee, Michigan called Heikki Lunta. The Opening Ceremony will take place in downtown Negaunee on Friday, February 7 at 5:45 PM and will be followed by the rail jam. This event is free to the public.

Grand Rapids, Mich., June 17, 2024 - In a little more than a month, all eyes will be on Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics. This month, Michigan fans can celebrate Olympic fever close to home at the main weekend of the 2024 Meijer State Games of Michigan Friday, June 21 through Sunday, June 23. The games also will celebrate its 15-year anniversary with the help of over 6,000 expected athletes participating in 28 sports, with a total economic impact of over $3 million.

Fast Facts on the 15th Anniversary of Summer Games

The Meijer State Games of Michigan is an Olympic-style, multi-sport event that welcomes athletes regardless of age or ability level. As one of 30 state games programs nationally under the National Congress of State Games and the official games for Michigan, the Meijer State Games of Michigan embodies the values of participation, sportsmanship and healthy living among Michigan residents. Since 2010, Meijer State Games of Michigan has hosted over 110,000 athletes and contributed more than $42 million in estimated economic impact. A signature event of the West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC), the Meijer State Games of Michigan is a grassroots organization that relies on the dedication of thousands of volunteers and the support of corporate partners.

15th Annual Summer Games Opening Ceremony Details Released

As people anticipate the fanfare of the 2024 Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony, a local Olympic-style celebration will take place this summer right in West Michigan - the Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Meijer State Games of Michigan - Summer Games. This free event open to the public takes place at the Meijer Sports Complex (3300 10 Mile Road NE, Rockford 49341) June 21 at 7:30 to 9 p.m.

SPORTS MEDICAL COVERAGE AT THE UPCOMING SUMMER GAMES PROVIDED BY NOVACARE REHABILITATION

Officials with the Meijer State Games of Michigan announced NovaCare Rehabilitation as the exclusive and official provider of sports medicine for the upcoming Grand Rapids area-based Summer Games sporting events. The Meijer State Games of Michigan and NovaCare are entering the second year of a three-year deal.
