The Summer Games are right around the corner. We cannot wait to connect with the community through sport. Athletes and spectators alike should start counting down the days until opening ceremony. To get ready athletes should continue training and register for their event(s). Inform the rest of the community about this Olympic style event and encourage them to attend. Consider the other ways that you can be involved with the games. Don’t forget your Meijer State Games of Michigan Summer Games official merchandise!

Train

To get a gold medal, you have to train for a gold medal. Set goals that are achievable for you. These goals could be an increase in weight, more reps, or faster times during each run. Workout regularly, but don’t forget to take time to actively recover with light stretching, yoga, or a mobility flow.

The Meijer State Games of Michigan values participation, sportsmanship, and healthy living. Healthy living doesn’t just come from staying active. Part of this process is making sure to eat healthy. If you need help with training, reach out to your local gym or fitness center.

Find an event to compete in

There are over 30 Olympic-style events to choose from. The events are for everyone, meaning athletes of all ages and abilities are encouraged to compete. Athletes can be involved in more than a single event. They can choose to do as many as they would like. Registering before the event makes the game day less stressful. Athletes will feel free from the rush of filling out paperwork in a line of athlete check-ins and registration. Only some events offer on-site registration, and some increase the registration price. A few events are archery, bowling, cricket, figure skating, track and field, 5K, and paintball.

Invite Friends and family

The Meijer State Games of Michigan Summer Game is in the business of spectator sports. That means that the Olympic style sports in the summer line-up are found to be entertaining to watch. Share information about the Summer Games with friends and family members. It could convince them to compete too. Having people to watch you succeed makes the experience extraordinary. It will boost an athlete’s confidence to be able to look into the crowd and see familiar faces. It shows that their family and friends care about them and their passions.

Attend the Opening Ceremony

An Opening Ceremony is a free event for athletes and spectators. The ceremony is held at the Meijer Sports Complex in Rockford, MI. The opening ceremony starts with an athlete check-in. Athletes are thanked for their participation and sportsmanship with a gift bag. Last year, between announcements and guest speakers, the Flores Family Thrill Show performed on a Sway Pole and in the Globe of Death. This year the entertainment will be different, but just as exciting. Mad Chad Taylor, is coming to the opening ceremony to perform his Hollywood famous chainsaw juggling act. This act is family friendly and will have you laughing the entire time. After check-ins and the starting announcement, athletes will line up for the parade of athletes! Each event with all of its athletes will have a special moment to be recognized and cheered for by the crowd. Mascots from prestige universities in the Grand Rapids area will walk among the athletes. Athletes will have the honor of being led through the Oath of Athletes by Olympic guests. One lucky volunteer will be called onto the stage and awarded the Volunteer of the Year. An outstanding athlete will be chosen as the Athlete of the Year and get to introduce the torch that will light the cauldron. Following that, the cauldron will be lit, signifying the start of the Summer Games.
