Here are five highlights you won’t want to miss at the 2022 Winter Games in Marquette
Fire Tornado
Curious? We are too. We’ll be debuting a brand-new cauldron for the Marquette Winter Games.
You can check out the fire tornado when it gets lit at Opening Ceremony on Friday, February 25. The event starts at 7:00 pm and athletes can start checking in at 5:30 pm to receive their athlete bag, credential, sponsor giveaways and more! Athletes will start off Opening Ceremony with the parade of athletes.
You don’t have to be an athlete to check out Opening Ceremony, spectators are welcome to come and check out the parade of athletes, pro rail jam competition, Olympian appearances, lighting of the cauldron (aka fire tornado) and fireworks.
Olympian Appearances
Special guests Olympians John Kusku, Gary Morgan and Craig Kressler are set to join us at Opening Ceremony.
John Kusku - Goalball Paralympian 2016, 2020; 1 silver
Gary Morgan - Racewalker 1988
Craig Kressler - Speed Skating 1980
Gold medalist and UP native Nick Baumgartner was set to join us, but unfortunately, he is unable to be there. While we’ll miss having Nick there, he’s a great reminder that opportunities to achieve our dreams can happen at any age.
So, whether you’re just getting started or have been doing your sport for years, take every opportunity you have to go for gold.
Go for Gold
Six events will be taking place this weekend in the Marquette area: Cross Country Skiing, Figure Skating, Ice Hockey, Luge, Skiing (freestyle and alpine), Snowboard and Snowshoe.

Not a skier or a snowboarder? You could be a luger! All equipment is provided for participants with 3-4 practice runs given before the final 2 timed runs. Drop by during their open hours to o the course.
Winter Wonderland
After a record-breaking snow (21.6 inches on February 22), the 2022 Winter Games in Marquette will be the snowiest Games we’ve had! The forecast shows the sun coming out in time for the Saturday events setting us up for a beautiful day of winter sports.
