Olympian Dick Fosbury to Attend Meijer State Games of Michigan Opening Ceremony 

Extreme Stunt Trampoline Show for Opening Ceremony Entertainment

 

Grand Rapids, Mich., May 2, 2019 ─ The 2019 Meijer State Games of Michigan’s Summer Games Opening Ceremony is just 50 days away. The ceremony takes place on Friday June 21st at 7:30 PM at Fifth Third Ballpark. This year, the Meijer State Games of Michigan is proud to welcome high jump Olympian Dick Fosbury as the key note speaker to the Opening Ceremony.

 

Dick Fosbury won the gold medal at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City by breaking Olympic and American records, jumping at 7’ 4.25”. He is credited with revolutionizing the high jump with the “Fosbury Flop” during his high school years and into his Olympic Games. The move is now used by many high jumpers worldwide. Fosbury is currently serving as the president of the United States Olympic Committee’s U.S. Olympians and Paralympians Association. He is also the Honorary Chairman of the Simplot Games, the largest high school level indoor track meet in the USA.

 

Along with Dick Fosbury, the extreme stunt trampoline show provided by Flippenout Trampoline will be the entertainment for the Opening Ceremony. The Flippenout team is made of the top athletes from North America including Olympic medalists, national champions, national team members, Olympic hopefuls, and top tier show professionals. They perform elaborate acrobatic shows using their trampolines. They broke the Guinness World Record for the highest trampoline bounce in 2012.

 

All registered athletes and children under the age of nine get free admission to the Opening Ceremony. Admission for adults and children over the age of nine is $5. Parking is an additional $5. Gates open at 6:30 PM on Friday June 21st.
