Event Overview:

The 2016 Meijer State Games of Michigan 16 & Under Ice Hockey Tournament will eight geographically based teams in each division will come together  to compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Eligible players from all over the State of Michigan will try-out to represent their regionally based teams.

Each team will play a minimum of four (4) games beginning Thursday evening, with one game Thursday, one game Friday (plus State Games Opening Ceremonies Friday evening), two games Saturday, concluding with the medal games on Sunday. All players are asked to attend the State Games of Michigan Opening Ceremonies at Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday evening, and walk in the Parade of Athletes.

All games are played to a conclusion with a guaranteed winner through an overtime formula. There are NO ties. The top two teams in each division make the semi-finals to determine who will play for the Gold Medal, however, all semi-finalists are guaranteed to play on Sunday for a medal.

The youth hockey tournament committee for the 2016 Meijer State Games of Michigan is committed to offering hockey players, parents, coaches and spectators an exciting Olympic-style event that will be remembered for a life time.

Eligible Players & Teams:

The 16U Tournament is open to players in the '00 and '01 birth years, who are Michigan residents and/or MAHA registered*, and played on a C, B, A, or AA team during the 2015-2016 season, are eligible to tryout for the team that will represent their geographical area. Anyone who played AAA(Tier I) during the 2015-16 winter season in NOT eligible to try out for this tournament. *Any resident of ONT, WI, IN and/or OH, who is a MAHA registered player and meets the age and non-tier I criteria is eligible to tryout.

Players will try-out for the geographically based teams according to the association for which they played during the 2015-2016 Winter season. For a complete list, please click to our new website link below.

Unlike the normal "travel tryout" process, where interested skaters are able to ‘walk up’ and pay to register for the tryout, the State Games of Michigan is not permitting a cash payment on site. So, if there are players that are considering their participation, it is critical that they register through our website and ensure that we can accept their payment to participate in the tryout.  There will NOT be registration options available at the tryout site.
