West Michigan Sports Commission Submits Bid for State Games of America

The West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC), Experience Grand Rapids and the Meijer State Games of Michigan recently submitted a bid to host the State Games of America in 2017. The State Games of America (SGA), a National Congress of State Games (NCSG) event, is an Olympic-style event featuring competition between State Games medal winners (gold, silver, bronze) from across the nation. Statewide Huntington Bank Torch Tour to Kickoff 2014 Meijer State Games of Michigan at Eight Locations

The 2014 Meijer State Games of Michigan (MSGOM), a West Michigan Sports Commission signature event, will feature a new, statewide Meijer State Games of Michigan Torch Tour Presented by Huntington Bank that will travel from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to Grand Rapids from June 13-20. Hockey’s U19 Team North Snipers announced

The Team North Snipers U19 Girls hockey team representing Northern Lower Michigan at the State Games of Michigan sponsored by Meijer will have a distinct Alpena flavor with four players and three coaches on its roster. Defenseman Courtney Nunneley joins forwards Megan Martin and Amber Repke on the Team North Squad coached by Alpena Girl’s Hockey Coach Jake Martin. 2nd Annual National Anthem Contest Winner Announced

After two weeks of Facebook voting, the results are in for the winner of the 2nd annual Meijer State Games of Michigan national anthem contest presented by Heglund Sova Realty. Elise Ghattas of Flint, Michigan received the majority of the votes and will perform the national anthem at the Meijer State Games of Michigan - Opening Ceremonies. The Opening Ceremonies will be held June 20 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park with an estimated 6,000 people in attendance. VIDEO: Young athletes compete to represent Northern Michigan at State Games

OTSEGO COUNTY -- 26 young athletes hit the ice at the Otsego County Sportsplex Sunday to try out for the "Team North" girls' hockey team, which will represent northern lower Michigan at the Meijer State Games in Grand Rapids June 19th-22nd. The tryouts consisted of skill tests on the ice, as well as team-building exercises off the ice. Coaches had to whittle the roster down to 20 players following the tryouts, including 18 skaters and two goalies. Click here to watch the video or read the story:
