Grand Rapids, Mich., January 24, 2017 – The fourth annual Meijer State Games of Michigan Winter Games are quickly approaching. Over 2,000 athletes will be competing in 20 different sports throughout January and February. Registration for the 2017 Winter Games is now open. The main weekend for competition is February 17-19, with events on January 29th and February 4-5. Meijer Summer State Games Kicks Off This Weekend

More than 7500 athletes from all across West Michigan are coming to compete in the 7th Annual Meijer State Games of Michigan this weekend. The Meijer State Games of Michigan is a multi-sport, Olympic-style event that welcomes athletes regardless of age or ability. The Games embody the values of participation, sportsmanship and healthy living among residents of the state of Michigan. The main weekend is from June 23-26, with the opening ceremonies happening on June 24. Opening ceremonies will be at Fifth Third Ballpark from 2-9 p.m.

How to plan, enjoy big weekend of Meijer State Games of Michigan

The main weekend of the Meijer State Games of Michigan has arrived with 37 of the 42 sports offered taking place in and around Grand Rapids. Here is what you need to know: Want to go? First, there is the opening ceremonies Friday at Fifth Third Ballpark. That runs 7:30-9 p.m. and includes a performance by "America's Got Talent" 2012 winner the Olate Dogs and the lighting of the caldron. If you can't be there, there will be a live stream. If you're an athlete, it's free to get in. Spectators cost $6. Parking, after 3:30 p.m., is $6.

Team North Prepares for Summer Games

TRAVERSE CITY — An off-shaded rainbow streaked across the Centre ICE rink Tuesday as Team North boys hockey practiced for the upcoming Meijer State Games of Michigan. Red. Orange. Turquoise. Black. Blue. Gray. White. Gold. Yet, for as numerous the shades of jerseys and varying hometowns dotting the wide-ranging roster, the players and coaches gathered for one reason. Meijer State Games of Michigan Athlete Kate Kihm joins Midland Women’s Hockey

Kihm joins Midland Women’s Hockey The Midland University women’s hockey program has announced the newest addition to its 2016-17 recruiting class, Kate Kihm. The Kalamazoo, Michigan native has signed on to join the Lady Warriors next fall. Kihm has been selected to compete in the Meijer State Games of Michigan for the 19U West team later this month where she was named to the All-Tournament Team in 2015. New Additions to the 2016 Meijer State Games of Michigan Lineup

The Meijer State Games of Michigan has added two new sports to the Summer Games lineup including pinball and weightlifting. The 2016 Summer Games will also include three new divisions: flag football, 16U boy’s hockey, and beach wrestling. This year’s lineup will offer 42 sports with anticipation of hosting over 8,000 athletes. Along with the new additions, the Meijer State Games of Michigan will return two sports to this year’s event. Soccer will return after not running in 2015, along with ultimate {Frisbee} that has not been hosted since 2013.

Following the Meijer State Games of Michigan – Summer Games, a male, female, and youth athlete is chosen as Athlete of the Year. A volunteer is also selected as Volunteer of the Year.
